HAFA stands for Home Affordable Foreclosure Alternatievs and it is an extension of the HAMP (Home Affordable Modification Program).  The program was designed to provide help for homeowners who are behind on their mortgage or have been denied for a loan modification through HAMP .  The program went into effect on August 1st, 2010 and will expire on December 31st, 2012.  The program offers homeowners the ability to short sale their home and GET PAID $3,000 CASH for doing it.

Below are the qualifications required for this program:

  • Does Freddie Mac Own Your Mortgage
• Property must be your primary residence.  It cannot be abandoned, condemned or vacant
• Must be 60+ days late on your mortgage
